Google Maps will allow you to set your favorite mode of transport

THE Google Maps should allow, in the near future, the user to choose their favorite mode of travel when searching for routes in the application. The novelty began to be tested recently in the beta version of the platform, according to a report by the 9to5Google on Tuesday (3).

Car, bicycle, public transport or on foot? With the change in test in the Google maps serviceyou will be able to see the results for the route calculations only for the previously defined transport type, instead of receiving various suggestions on the screen, which may confuse the user.

According to the publication, the objective is precisely to avoid this confusion, making the interface more minimalist, with only the information of the chosen travel modality. In addition, the change allows saving the preference for future searches and leaves more free space for the map overview on the mobile screen.

It is important to point out that this type of adjustment present in the Google Maps beta v11.28.0 is not unheard of in the search giant’s services. Setting the travel mode could already be done in the Google appfollowing the path Settings > Google Assistant > Account > Preferences > Transportbut it’s only now coming to Maps.

floating search box

In the image above, it is also possible to see a new floating search box, in which the user informs the origin and destination of the trip. More compact, it replaces the current search panel, which takes up a large amount of space on the screen, removing unnecessary components to facilitate the visualization of routes directly on the map.

Only available on Google Maps beta, at the moment, it is not yet known when such news will reach the stable version of the service or even if it will happen in the future. For now, you need to install the trial edition of the app to try them out.
